The honest answer to 'how many sessions' is 'more than one, fewer than forever'. Hair grows in cycles, so laser is a course, not a one-off — and the price that matters is the price of the course. Here are the session numbers we actually see on Nigerian skin, and our live per-session prices for the areas people ask about most.
How many sessions, honestly
Every hair on your body is in one of three phases: growing, resting, or shedding. Laser only works on hairs that are actively growing, because that is when the hair is connected to its follicle. At any moment only a portion of your hairs are in that phase — which is why one session reduces hair but can never clear it, and why a course is needed.
| Area | Sessions most people need | How far apart |
|---|---|---|
| Upper lip, chin, sideburns | 6–8 (hormonal chin hair: 8–10 + maintenance) | 4–6 weeks |
| Underarms | 6–8 | 4–6 weeks |
| Bikini line, Brazilian, Hollywood | 6–8 | 4–6 weeks |
| Half or full arms | 6–8 | 6–8 weeks |
| Half or full legs | 6–8 | 6–8 weeks |
| Chest, abdomen, back | 6–8 (men often 8–10) | 6–8 weeks |
| Full body | 6–8 | 6–8 weeks |
What affects your number: hair thickness and colour (coarse, dark hair is the easiest to treat), hormones (PCOS, thyroid issues and some medicines keep pushing new hair), and consistency. Missing the window between sessions does not undo progress, but stretching every gap to three months adds sessions to the course.
How laser is priced in Lagos
Laser is priced per area, per session. Four things decide where an area sits on the list:
- Size — upper lip and chin at the bottom, full legs, full back and full body at the top.
- Time — a Brazilian takes longer than underarms; full body is a two-hour appointment.
- Hair density — men's pricing is listed separately because male hair is usually denser and takes longer.
- Combinations — chin + upper lip, or bikini + underarms, are cheaper as a combined area than booked separately.
We keep the actual numbers on one page so they are always current: the Services & Pricing page lists every area, including VAT.
Budgeting a course
Multiply the per-session price by 6–8 and that is the realistic cost of being done with that area. Two things bring it down:
- Bundling. Our bundle discount applies automatically when you book four or more services in one visit, with a bigger discount on your first visit when you start the same day as your consultation. Underarms + Brazilian + half legs + upper lip in one appointment is a very common combination, and it qualifies.
- Doing the right areas together. Two small areas that are next to each other (chin + upper lip, bikini + underarms) are often cheaper as a combined area than separately.
What does not bring it down: skipping the test patch, going to a cheaper clinic with IPL, or using lightening creams between sessions to "help" — all three tend to end with a burn, a dark patch and a longer course.
How to compare quotes in Lagos
Ask every clinic the same five questions:
- Per session or per course? A per-course quote that looks high may be cheaper than a per-session quote multiplied by eight.
- Is VAT included? Ours is; many quotes add 7.5% at the till.
- Which laser? For dark skin you want an Nd:YAG platform (Candela, for example) — see why the laser matters on dark skin.
- What if I react? Burns and marks on dark skin are the cost of cheap equipment. A clinic should tell you what their protocol is.
- Do you do a test patch?
Before and after each session, briefly
- Before: shave the area 12–24 hours earlier; no waxing, threading or plucking for 4 weeks; no sun or lightening creams on the area for 2 weeks; come without deodorant, oils or makeup.
- After: cool the skin, skip the gym and hot showers for a day, sunscreen daily, let the "shedding" hairs fall out on their own over 1–3 weeks.
Full preparation and aftercare for melanin-rich skin is in our dark skin laser guide.
Book it properly
Laser at The Baddie Lab is done on a Candela laser platform by technicians who treat Nigerian skin every day. Your first visit includes a skin assessment and test patch, and your course is planned area by area so the spacing is right. Current prices for every area are on the Services & Pricing page; our laser hair removal page has the overview.
Questions people ask
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It gives long-term hair reduction. After a full course most people have 70–90% less hair and what regrows is finer and lighter. Hormonal areas (chin, jaw, lower abdomen) and some body areas may need a maintenance session once or twice a year.
How long does each session take?
Upper lip about 5 minutes, underarms 10–15, Brazilian 20–30, full legs 45–60, full body around 2 hours. You can go straight back to work; just no gym or sun that day.
Can I do laser hair removal while pregnant?
We do not treat during pregnancy. There is no evidence of harm to the baby, but there is also no safety data, pregnancy hormones change hair growth, and skin is more prone to pigmentation. Wait until after delivery.
Can men do laser hair removal?
Yes. Beard shaping, neck (to stop razor bumps), back, chest and shoulders are the most common areas for men. Men's pricing is listed separately on our Services page because male hair is usually denser and takes longer.
Does laser help with razor bumps and ingrown hairs?
It is one of the best treatments for them. Razor bumps (pseudofolliculitis) come from hair curling back into the skin; fewer, finer hairs mean fewer bumps. Most clients see a clear improvement within three sessions.
Why do prices differ so much between clinics in Lagos?
The laser (an Nd:YAG platform costs many times more than IPL), the experience of the technician with dark skin, whether VAT and consumables are included, and whether the price is per session or per course. Ask exactly what the quote covers.
